Purvis Young

Purvis resides in the rough Overton Section of Miami. He is highly prolific and talented. He paints with great speed and confidence. His brightly pigmented images often depict Bluesmen, City Warriors marching through the streets, Horses, Boat People, Trucks cruising the Ghetto, and calligraphic one stroke fertility Goddesses. He lives in a small warehouse that is chalk filled with scraps of wood and whatever other surface he can find to paint on. He was the only folk artist to be included in the 2002 Whitney Biennial, held in New York City . Purvis is a Nationally recognized folk artist who has shown far and wide beyond his native Miami .
